REVIEW: Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer

Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer

I have to say that I only bought this because it was a Revlon Product. Otherwise I would have passed because I have so many primers. I LOVE my Photoready foundation and you guys know how I like to match my foundation to my primer, sooo you know this was calling my name.

I bought the Perfecting primer in 001, but it also comes in a Color Correcting Primer 002. I haven't picked up the Color Correcting one yet, but I'll do a review on that one when I do.

I have to admit that the price tag is a little bit of a turn off. For a drugstore primer, this was a little pricey at around $15. I guess you get what you pay for huh?

The packaging is the exact same as the foundation. It is in a glass dispenser with a plastic pump. I really like the packaging. It's convenient and more sanitary than just being a bottle. It also doesn't over dispense product so you are not wasting it.

This is how much one pump dispenses. It's a white pearly liquid. It does not contain any silicone so there is no powdery feeling afterwords. It dries to a satin soft finish which helps mattify oily skin.

I found that the best way to apply this primer was to dispense a little onto the fingers and spread over each area (forehead, cheek, chin, etc).  I originally tried to put 2 pumps into the palm of my hand and then spread over my face. That was a fail. It just caused the product to be absorbed into my palms and not on my face.

The consistency of the primer is more like a lotion than anything else. It absorbs pretty fast and has a pretty good staying power. As you can see from the picture below, I have a stain from swatching a lipstick and the next picture, the primer partially covers it.

Pros
  • No silicone
  • Lightweight
  • Fast absorbing
  • Pump dispenser
Cons
  • Price
The wear time in my foundation was great! At the end of my 8 hr workday, my face still looks like I just applied foundation. I've tried this with the matching foundation, as well as BB Creams and the mousse foundations. I find that with the primer, it helps control oil and also it helps my foundation from oxidizing too quickly and making my face look muddy.

Overall,  I am really satisfied with this primer. It does what it claims to do and doesn't make my face greasy by the end of the day. I will gladly shelve out the money for it again when I run out.

Collective Haulage!

I picked up a couple of things from Wal-Mart. I was getting groceries and just randomly picked these things up. I was thinking of buying some make up products but I'm trying to save money.

I picked up a jar of Blistex, apparently they make a European formula? I also picked up a bottle of Aqua Light from Pantene. I used it already and it feels slightly like dry oil for your hair. The product is in 2 layers and you're supposed to shake it up. It still separates really easily. I also picked up a hair mask. It's by Henna 'n' Placenta. I saw it on another blogger's site once and she seemed to really love it, plus at 0.97 cents, it's worth a try.

I picked up these flip flops from TJ Maxx. Funny story, my roomie has the same pair and I didn't realize it. I wore them all the way to the bus stop before I realized they were A) too big B) not mine LOL

I read somewhere that Bare Minerals has free samples on their website and all you have to do is pay for shipping. I got a sample of their foundation in medium beige, a packet of active cell renewel night serum, and a packet of their unbelievably hydrating moisturizer. I paid 1.05 for this.

Last couple of thing I bought were from Charlotte Russe. I don't normally shop here but they were offering $10 off a $50 purchase and free shipping. I saw a couple of things I wanted and I returned the rest.

I saw a similar necklace on a couple of lookbooks, but they were too expensive. This was pretty affordable at $10.

I also picked up this necklace. I liked the idea of it better than when I actually received it. I hope I can make it work tho. It was only $3.

These are the flip flops they release every year. I had a pair last year and they actually broke in half. I didn't really mind because they were so cheap. I normally replace all my flip flops every year anyways. I love the bright coral color.

Cheers! What are you ladies hauling lately?! ANNNND I'm super sorry about not blogging everyday like I normally do, work is starting to pick up and when I get home all I wanna do is pass out in bed =/

I'll do better I promise!

REVIEW: Venus & Olay Razor

So I was sent one of these razors in my Love Voxbox and I just have to share how much I LOVE it.

Product Details
  • Venus’ five-bladed razors shave you close and adjust to women’s curves for a smooth and comfortable shave, even over tricky shaving areas like knees and ankles.
  • Olay Moisture Bars contain skin-enhancing elements found in Olay products: Petrolatum helps lock in skin’s moisture for less dryness and Glycerin helps offer that goddess glow! Just wet the razor to release a light lather – no separate shave cream required.
  • As with most Venus razors, new Venus & Olay also features a rounded, pivoting head designed for women’s curves, and a soft-grip ergonomic handle for confident control, even in wet and soapy environment

The package come with the razor head, the stem, and also a holder.

I was super skeptical at first because I have always used Venus razors so I was like pssshhfft. This razor isn't going to impress me ... boy was I wrong!

Let's be real ladies, when I get in the shower in the morning I'm not looking to shave my legs. It's a get in and out process, but with the nice weather approaching a little more rapidly than before, this tool is a must for your bath.

Literally the 2 little strips are so moisturizing, it feels like you are shaving with butter! I normally end up with a few nicks if I don't use shaving cream, but with this razor, you just need a little warm water.

The heads are replaceable and they come in packages of one or three. It cost approximately $8.99-$10.99 for one and $14.99 - $19.49 for three.

Venus & Olay will be available starting March 15, 2012 everywhere you find Gillette products.

If you want more information about the razor and other Gillette products, visit their website here and check it out. What razor do you ladies use?!

Disclaimer: This product was sent for consideration for review, I wasn't paid for this post but I am now affiliated with them. This is my honest opinion as always!

Blog Anniversary!

So I decided to check when I first started blogging and guess what guys?! It's been a whole year. I wanna thank everyone that visits my blog and leaves me comments. I really appreciate you guys and I hope everyone has a happy Thursday!!

Prezzies: Von Maur

It's pretty rare that my mom shops at a website that I haven't heard of and recently she told me that a website called, Von Maur has a nice selection of designer things.

I got a nice present in the mail from her. My mom is just like me. We love a bargain. She said she saw this necklace was on sale and knows I love Juicy so she just bought it. It came wrapped in lovely paper and had a pretty purple ribbon.

It's a silver necklace that has a flip design. On one side it says 'love' and on the other side it says 'hate.' I laughed when I saw it because it's not normally something I would wear and it's def not something I can picture my mom buying. I guess she just picked it out bc it was on sale.

March Birchbox 2012

This month, subscribers had the option to choose their regular Birchbox, or a Birchbox put together by Teen Vogue Beauty Guru Eva Chen.

ANNICK GOUTAL| Petite Cherie Eau de Toilette - 0.06 oz (full size cost: $85)
A blend of fresh fruity notes and musk, this French fragrance is the definition of understated chic.

ESSIE| Luxeffects Set in Stones -
0.46 fl oz (full size cost: $8)

Layer this glittery top coat onto any polish for an eye-catching look.

SHISEIDO| Pureness Oil-Control Blotting Papers - 10 sheets
 (full size cost: $110)

These mattifying tissues are coated with transparent rice powder to leave your skin perfectly shine-free.

TARTE| LipSurgence Lip Tint in Peaceful
(full size cost: $24)

This long-lasting stain adds rich pigment and is designed to boost the moisture leavels in your lips.

I was super excited to get this, but when I pulled it out of the box. It was twisted halfway up and melted to the cap. booo! I called customer service and they said that unfortunitly they were out of these and all she could do was refund the price of my Birchbox. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it's better than nothing. It's still salvagable, but more work than I wanted.

I also was hoping I would receive the lipsurgance in hot pink instead of this nude peach color. It's almost too nude for my lips. Looks slightly like concealer.
TWIST BAND| Hair Tie (full size cost: 12 pack, $18)
Give your ponytail a makeover with these colorful, snag-free elastics.
EXTRAS: Coupon Code to Modcloth.com and a discounted subscription to TeenVogue.

Clothes Galore: Hollister, Macy's, Ross

When I went to pick up my MAC lipsticks, I HAD to stop and do some shopping. After all the mall was a good 30 mins away from my house so round trip was about an hour.

This mall is very small, but it has the basic chain stores. The mall doesn't have a MAC store, but it does have a MAC counter inside the Macy's.

I browsed around the Junior's dept and they were having  a major sale. I tried to look through a lot of the racks, but it was a little too messy for me. Also the sale was mainly crop tops and sweaters. I don't need either since Spring is around the corner.

I picked up this dress. It fits like a dream. I was going to wear it to an interview or even a nice dinner out. Best part, the price! $9.99!!

I've also been watching a lot of youtube videos and I've seen a lot of my favorite gurus wearing bright colored chiffon tops. I am just in love with the whole idea so I picked up these 2 tops. One is a coral color and the other is a bright blue. These were $19.99 each.

Last clothing store I stopped at was Hollister. I have decided that I can not shop here without a limit or some kind of control. I'm like a kid in a candy store.

I picked up three cardi sweaters. I always wear a lot of sleeveless things and these make great cover ups for work. They were a steal at $13 and the original price was like $50. I bought one in grey, navy, and white.

I also picked up a lace top. I saw this on a model at the website and I knew I had to have it, but I didn't wanna pay full price. This one was on sale for $15

I also stopped by Ross and I picked up two things. I got this dress. It's navy and has one sleeve. It's a little loose but it will look great with a belt. It was only $12

I also picked up some of these clips. They're a unique concept and I hope they work. They shaped like a W and you clip them in your hair while it's drying. It's supposed to make your hair wavy. They were only $3.99 so why not.

Random shirt I got from Target a while back.

It's pretty rainy in VA today after being 80 all day. I actually spent my morning aka from 8am to 4pm in a driving improvement clinic -__- I know I know. It sucked. What's everyone up to on St Patty's day??

REVIEW: ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer

I bought this on a recommendation from Saaammge. She never has bad recommendations so I thought I would check this out. Originally this was only available on their website, but when I visited my Super Target, they had it on their ELF display.

According to the ELF website:
Transform your face into a flawless and smooth canvas with the Mineral Infused Face Primer. Developed to combat against excess oil, flaky dryness, enlarged pores and fine lines. This clear multipurpose skin primer will prepare your skin so makeup goes on evenly for a long lasting satin finish.

Ingredients: Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Penoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben.

The packaging looks nice, sleek and compact, but it is cheap plastic. Probably why it only cost $6. I recommend NOT dropping this bc it will crack. I like that it comes with a pump so you can control the amount that comes out. I never need more than 2 pumps to cover my whole face.

The primer is a clear gel like texture. If you have ever tried the Smashbox primer, it has the same exact texture and consistency. It definitely has silicone in it, so if your skin is sensitive to it, I would say pass.

The gel is light weight and non greasy so it's good for combo or oily skin. I didn't notice any excess oils, even after a few hours of wear.

I don't know if you can tell, but the primer does fill in the pores on my hand. The surface looks a lot smoother than before I blended it out.

The primer does gives your foundation a little bit more wear, but it's not as much as some higher end primers. Lots of my foundations are waterproof, full coverage, and long lasting so I don't know how much this primer helped out.

The primer does have a slight smell to it. It reminds me of plastic or bad hairspray. You can't smell it at all once you apply it to your face.

Overall, I like this primer. I would definitely repurchase when I run out. I mainly pair it with my drugstore foundations like my Revlon Colorstay or my Maybelline Superstay. It works really well with those. I know that the Revlon Colorstay does tend to get a little greasy or oily by the end of the day, but I didn't notice any increase in oil with the primer.

I haven't tried it with my higher end foundations because I have matching primers for most of my higher end foundations.

If you are looking for an inexpensive primer, I'd say go for this. It's a good primer to start with.
