thebalm Powders Review

So I bought this set at TJ Maxx a while ago and I just wanted to share some thoughts. The set came with three powders from thebalm and it was a steal at $19.99

These powders retail for $19 each at Sephora. It's still available if you search for it.

theBalm Bahama Mama Bronzing Powder

What it is:
A bronzing powder with a beach-worthy glow.

What it does:
TheBalm Bahama Mama is a bronzing powder formulated to leave you skin with a beautiful, natural- looking glow and a soft, silky feel. This powder is translucent, while still providing color with staying power.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Phthalates

This is true matte bronzer. It doesn't have any shimmer/glitter/sparkle in it and the shade is not orangey at all either, just a matte brown base.  This works great as a contour shade and a cheek color as well. It can also make you look like you faked a real tan (if you use it all over). It is pretty soft, pigmented and applies smoothly over the face.

The packaging is pretty, but at times impractical. The cardboard gets pretty dusty and dirty and I find that when I'm trying to apply the bronzer the lid will flip close.

I used my finger to swatch it twice. I have Benefit's Hoola next to it as a comparison.  The box also says that the bronzer can be used as a shadow. It comes out to a medium chocolate brown.

theBalm Sexy Mama Translucent Powder

What it is:
A mattifying anti-shine translucent powder for all skin tones.

What it does:
Powder your face without a trace when you use The Balm's Sexy Mama, a virtually invisible powder. This sexy formula with revolutionary, tiny oil absorbing spheres removes dreaded shine, leaving you with a soft, silky matte finish.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Phthalates

I was really impressed with this translucent powder. It has a subtle sheen and color to it that helps neutralize the redness in your face. This powder can be worn alone or over your foundation. The color isn't as noticable over your foundation as when you wear it alone.

The oil control in this powder is also great. It lasts a good amount of time without seeming cakey. The powder is also convenient for touch ups through out the day.

theBalm Hot Mama Blush/Powder/Eyeshadow

What it is:
A true all-in-one essential: sexy shadow, striking blush, subtle highlighter, and light-reflecting lip finisher tucked inside a go-anywhere compact.

What it is formulated to do:
The pinky-peach hue adds a splash of color to cheeks, a hint of shimmer to the lids, and illuminates your finest features.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Phthalates

This blush reminds me a lot of NARS Orgasm and Super Orgasm. It has the same warm shade of coral without the glittery shimmer. The only difference is that Orgasm is a bit too sheer and Super Orgasm a bit too glittery/shimmery…Hot Mama is neither. It's super pigmented and a little goes a long way.

Some may find that the shimmer in Hot Mama may be a little too much for those with large pores.

Texture-wise, this blush is beautiful.  It’s silky, smooth and doesn’t create masses of dust when your brush passes over the surface. But it is is quite soft and easy to nick when you're not careful.

I stuck Hot Mama next to the other NARS blushes as a comparison. I don't own Super Orgasm so I can't say how similar it is.

Direct sunlight. Hot Mama is a lot more coral and less pink than the NARS blushes

The swatch above shows one swipe from Hot Mama… the NARS Orgasm and NARS Deep Throat swatch took a few swipes to build up to that intensity. Hot Mama is more coral in color while the NARS blushes are pink and has a bit more glitter to their color.

Hot Mama looks amazing! It looks like it would match my skin tone better than Nars Orgasm too (I find Orgasm is too cool tone for my warm tan skin!)
